2010 Blah Breaker Chases Winter Away

By tomconvery | February 15, 2010

For more that ten years now, the St. William Youth Group has hosted a dinner and afternoon of entertainment for the senior citizens of the parish.  The event is always on the last Sunday before Ash Wednesday — timed to coincide with the worst part of the winter season in order to give our Seniors a “break” from the “winter blahs”.  This year’s event, held on Sunday, February 14 (St. Valentine’s Day) found the outside weather far less dreary than any we have ever experienced as the snowfall have been light and the temperatures hover just around freezing.

Inside the Activity Center, the ‘weather’ was warm and bright as more than one hundred and twenty of our favorite parishioners came to enjoy the afternoon with the teens of the parish.  A team of high school youth group members were busy cooking noodles, heating Chef Paul Terzano’s spaghetti sauce, and preparing platters of spaghetti and meatballs to go with salad, rolls and butter.  An energetic army of youth served the food up to the tables and tried to keep the coffee cups full and the refills on spaghetti and salad quickly coming to the tables.

Following dinner, several lively games of bingo ensued as cards were filled and prizes awarded.  The nearly 50 youth and  their guests enjoyed alleemed to enjoy the afternoon with equal enthusiasm and are doubtless already looking forward to next year.

DON’T MISS THE FUN!

ST. WILLIAM PARISH PICNIC

SUNDAY, JULY 27TH

GILBERT WILLIS PARK

(Behind the VFW on

Loon Lake Road, Wixom)

2:00 PM – ‘til whenever

The highlight of the picnic is the annual softball game – St. William’s Dads’ Club vs. Usher’s Club vs. the Youth Group.

The rules seem to be on a sliding scale; depending on who is winning and who the umpire might be. Recruit your friends to join our team for the day!

Youth Group families are asked to bring a dessert to share! The Dads’ Club will provide hot dogs, hamburgers, salads, pop, and ice cream. The Ushers will provide beer. Tennis and basketball courts adjoin our gazebo and tents. There will be a bounce-house, buried treasure hunt, water baloon toss and other activities for the youngsters. Bingo with some great prizes at about 3 p.m.. Bring the entire family, as there is something fun for everyone.

Fish Fry Bake Sale

By christine | February 4, 2008

Lent starts this week, and so do the annual fish fries. The Youth Group will set up a bake sale to raise money for the Caritas Mission trip to Pennsylvania. Anyone able to donate baked goods and/or manpower to run the sale would be greatly appreciated. Anyone planning on going on the mission trip should help with the bake sale. If you are able to attend and work any of the fish fry dates (Feb. 8, 15, 22, 29 and March 7, 14, & 21), please leave a comment or let me know via e-mail (convery.christine@gmail.com). Thank you, and have a good lent!

New Year’s Update

By marge shackett | January 7, 2008

Happy New Year, everyone! Well, the party is definitely over and the mad rush has begun. The BLAH Breaker is less than a month away….ditto for the first Fish Fry. The Blah Breaker is a very labor intensive party, so I hope you can give us a hand! Blah Breaker Flyer/Form

St. William Youth Group invites the entire parish family to “Family Night at the Fridge” on Sunday, February 17, 2008 from 6:15-8:30 PM at Waterford Oaks Park. Cost is$6.00 per person & a snack to share. Fridge Flyer/Permission Slip

Also, those of you who are planning to go to Caritas, need to help with the Youth Ministry Bake Sales. All the money made from the Bake Sales goes toward the cost of sending our team to the Summer Work Camp. It’s not right that some get all the benefit and never do a thing to help. Think about that! Kathy Kubik has helped with the bake sales since we started. Her husband is retired now. He likes to travel and she likes to go with him. I don’t know if she will be helping us at all this year. Kathy did a lot of the shopping, baked, made sure we had a sugar free dessert to sell each week and helped run the sale. There is no way I will take on what she did….so someone has to step up to the plate. The other option is to find another way to fund raise for the Mission Trip. I’m open to any and all suggestions!

The participant and parent meeting for Rainbow is scheduled for February 17th, from 1:00 – 2:30 PM in Room #109, the weekend before the actual Conference. So mark your calendars. I’ll send out more information regarding that meeting at a later date. It’s wonderful to have some sunshine today. It certainly has been a weird winter, hasn’t it? Blessings! Marge
